The role of airway inflammation in COPD

COPD, which is caused by long-term inhalation of toxic gases and particles, is a disease characterized by airflow limitation that is not fully reversible, showing a progressive decline in FEV1, increasing shortness of breath, and ultimately respiratory failure. The airflow limitation is with gradually development. Smoking is the main reasons as well as the air pollution, bedroom environment pollution and some occupational factors. The pathophysiology caused by these factors are very similar, that is airway inflammation.

Airway inflammation is a key part to COPD, leads to nearly all the changes of structure and function.

The airway remodeling is the result made by the repeated abnormal repair from chronic inflammatory injury of small airway,
Destruction of lung parenchyma(emphysema) is caused by the protease released by pulmonary inflammatory cells.
The Glands hyperplasia and high production is resulted from the protease/ Proinflammatory mediators/ oxide released by inflammatory cells.
The prominent features for Acute exacerbation phase of COPD is the aggravating and magnified of airway inflammation.

Thus we know ,the airway inflammation acts a leading role during the progression of COPD. It is a ongoing problem in the lungs, there are no effective measures to eliminate it, even quit smoking.

How to train efficient coughing?

Coughing is a reflex, they are triggered by the body when it needs to remove irritants and mucus from the airways. Such receptor on Respiratory tract mucous membrane is under microorganisms and physical or chemical stimulation. The reflex is a kind of defence, keeping the clean and unobstructed. Many people think we born to cough, and there is no need to train, but the fact is many COPD patients are doing useless cough, not only cause physical exhaustion, but also sometimes come with bronchismus, aggravate the shortness of breath at the same time. So, only know how to efficient coughing, can promote the drainage of bronchus secretions efficiently.

Below is several steps to practice the action for coughing.

1.     Take a big deep breath, filling the lungs as completely as possible.

2.     Hold your breath for a moment, and the trunk forward slightly.

3.     Bending both arms and lying flat on the two sides blew the chest, Slightly adduction and pressure

4.     When cough musculi abdominis effort contraction, abdominal wall invagination, you can have three continuously “mini cough”

5.     Then, stop coughing, and shrinking the lip to exhale the rest gas.

6.     Inhaling slowly or calmly for a moment, be ready to cough again

If the deep breath leads to the cough, try to inhale intermittent for several times, it helps to strive for the pulmonary alveolus to gasify fully, increases the cough efficiency.

And another tip for the training is paying attention to the continuity of the action, finish at a dash.

Weekly report

         Salt therapy

Salt therapy (speleotherapy) originated in eastern Europe in the 19th century, it is a 100% natural, non-invasive treatment where dry salt particles are inhaled. The method is used to relieve respiratory problems and treat skin disorders. For those in good health it can help to improve general wellbeing and boost immunity as well. To carry the method, you can sit down in a salt cave or buy Halotherapy devices to use it at home.

So how does the salt therapy work? What are the benefits we can get? And how does the effect to COPD? Pls follow, let’s discover them.

1.How does the salt therapy work?
The dry-salt enriched air contains tiny salt particles that are easily inhaled with natural breathing. By sitting in the Salt Room for a prolonged period, low concentrations of salt are delivered to where it is most needed – deep in the lungs, where the salt then dissolves phlegm in the bronchial tubes and kills micro-organisms that cause infections. The phlegm, allergens, bacteria and any small impurities are later coughed up by the patient or leave the body through other natural metabolic ways. The treatment works to reduce the basis of inflammation by destroying bacteria and strengthening the immune system.

2.What are the main benefits we can get ?

1)Salt has the natural property of being able to absorb. As microscopic salt particles are inhaled- it is able to thin out and absorb the extra mucus- allowing a person to more easily release the mucus. Mucus is released through the nose, mouth and stool. The salt is able to reach the lower lobes of the lungs and the upper sinuses (where conventional medicine cannot) because of the size of the salt particles. The salt particles are between 3-5 microns.
2)Salt is a natural antiseptic and natural anti inflammatory. The salt is able to kill germs in the respiratory system (which can cause the over production of mucus in many situations) and manage inflammation in the entire respiratory system.
3)The salt in the salt room is naturally 98% sodium chloride. Sodium chloride has the property of being able to convert positive ions into negative ions.

3.How does the effect for treating COPD ?

We know, Cough with mucus, easy to be in infection, shortness of breath are the main symptoms of COPD. By inhaling the salt particles, the salt will help to kill the bacteria, help to release mucus, thus, after the therapy it will make your breathing easier, improve lung function, Alleviate sneezing, coughing, and shortness of breathClear mucus and sticky phlegm from the lungs

Some people have tried the treatment and love it,some are not, below is some feedbacks,

We suggest that the salt therapy can be a adjuvant therapy according to the severity of the COPD, just try it and then decide it.
